About this service
Skin tags are common benign growths, but not every raised lesion is a skin tag. The clinician checks the area first, then discusses a suitable removal method, likely healing and the small scar that any procedure can leave.
Minor Surgery
Removal of suitable skin tags after confirming the diagnosis and treatment method.

Skin tags are common benign growths, but not every raised lesion is a skin tag. The clinician checks the area first, then discusses a suitable removal method, likely healing and the small scar that any procedure can leave.
Skin tags are common, soft growths that often develop where skin rubs against skin or clothing, including the neck, underarms and body folds. They are usually harmless, but other lesions can resemble a skin tag. Clinical assessment helps confirm the diagnosis before removal.
Removal may be considered when a tag repeatedly catches, bleeds from friction or causes discomfort. The suitable technique depends on its size, attachment and location. Do not cut, tie or burn a presumed skin tag at home, particularly if the diagnosis is uncertain.
The clinician may discuss snip removal, cautery, cryotherapy or another method. Local anaesthetic may be used. A small wound, crust or blister can follow, and risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, pigment change and recurrence or development of new tags elsewhere.
Any lesion that is uncertain or clinically concerning may require dermatology assessment or histology rather than routine removal.
